2018 Annual Trek to NW Trek

A beautiful day and we saw pretty much every animal you can from the tram ride and then walking through the rest of the park. This is a great place to take the family! I’ll label the photos later but here are a few from our latest visit.

Weekend Maintenance

I’ve been deferring replacing the cabin air filter in my 2006 Acura RL for longer than I realized. I decided to take care of it today - can you tell which one is the new one?

Where Have You Been - WTF?

Ahhh - need to get better at putting some update here. What can I say? It's been a busy year so far. Here are some things that are either funny or interesting to me that have happened in the last week or so. Headed to Chicago tomorrow for a couple of days.

NFL Conference Championship Weekend

Here we are with two weeks to go until SuperBowl LII which will be held at US Bank Stadium in Minneapolis.

AFC Championship
Jacksonville @ New England

I think this one depends a lot on which Blake Bortles shows up today - if he doesn't through more than one interception today I think Jacksonville has a real good shot and beating the defending SuperBowl champions and punching their ticket to Minneapolis. The Jacksonville defense is going to get some pressure on Tom 'Pretty Boy' Brady but the dude has ice in his veins and the Patriots definitely have playoff experience - I would love to see the Patriots lose this one.

My prediction:
Jacksonville 24
New England 17

Update:
The Patriots came back to beat the Jaguars 24-20. Jacksonville led the entire game until the Brady touchdown pass to Amendola with 2:48 remaining in the fourth quarter. There isn't an adjective strong enough to describe home much I dislike the Patriots. I'd like to see the comparison of penalty yardage by quarter - I know they were even after the first quarter since the first penalty in the game wasn't called until the second quarter - that isn't something a Seahawk fan is familiar with.

NFC Championship
Minneapolis @ Philadelphia

If Carson Wentz were playing - I'd say there would be little doubt that Philadelphia doesn't end up representing the NFC in SuperBowl LII in two weeks but he's out and Nick Foles has done a decent job getting them this far. On the other side, Case Keenum has done a better-than-expected job of getting the Vikings to this point and after that win last week over the Saints - who is going to stop Case and the rest of the Vikings. As long as Case doesn't crap his pants, I think that the Vikings could very well be playing for a SuperBowl ring in their home stadium in two weeks.

My prediction:
Minneapolis 24
Philadelphia 20

Update:
The game started off like it was going to be a street fight but the Eagles ended of handling the Vikings pretty easily to punch their ticket to Suberbowl LII with a 38-7 win. I hope they left some for TB12 and the Patriots!

Gonzaga Beats Santa Clara

Gonzaga recovered from Thursday's loss to St. Marys with a 75-60 win over Santa Clara. Next game is Thursday @ Portland.

Uhoh, This content has sprouted legs and trotted off.

Kicking Off 2018

Well, 2018 arrived faster than I expected. The end of the year always brings a flurry of activites at both home and work. No resolutions for me this year - I've never been a big fan of them. I believe that if there is something in your life that you want to change then start - don't wait until January 1st.

We spent Christmas back in Montana with my paternal grandmother - she turned 93 on January 2nd so we hung around to have a small party for her. She's doing great, still lives on her own but doesn't drive any longer. It was cold there - it got as low as -31F (before the wind chill on New Years Day, so needless to say we didn't spend much time outside this trip.

I've never been able to get in a consistent pattern of writing entries for this blog which is something I'm going to work on this year and make at least one entry a week above and beyond the typical entries following @ZagMBB & @UW_MBB

As far as the NFL goes and SuperBowl 52... I'm rooting for the @Vikings - with the @Seahawks missing the playoffs for the first time in 5 years, I wasn't extremely excited about post-season football but there have been some really good games and it would be cool to see Minnesota win it all in their beautiful new stadium!

Another Equifax Issue

They can't seem to catch a break. The entire credit bureau industry needs a reboot. A great potential use-case for blockchain!

Seahawks Beat the Rams 16-10 in L.A.

Well the offense played very well today the Rams could move the ball pretty well until they got to the Red Zone and the Seahawks were near perfect after the Rams' initial drive. The offense still isn't clicking too well but the Rams' defense is no slouch - it was good to get the win on the road in LA.

Huskies Roll Over Cal 38-7

The Washington Huskies improve to 6-0 with a dominating performance over the California Bears last night at Montlake. I'm enjoying the late games this year - not sure I would if I were attending the games but being able to watch them at home after the rest of the games are over and I've gotten some things done around the house has been a nice change.
